Dromdiah House

Project: Dromdiah House
Location: Dromdihy, Co. Cork
Client: Private
Stage: Under Construction

Dromdiah House, a Protected Structure and Recorded Monument, is a prominent 1830’s Greek Revival house that has sat in a ruinous condition for over 80 years following the removal of the original roof structure in the 1940’s. Over the intervening period nature has taken its course and the house was enveloped in vegetation.

The project involves the recovery, adaptation and restoration of the ruinous structure to bring it back into life as a family home. The approach to restoring the building has two distinct objectives:

  • To conserve, consolidate and recover the principle neo-classical external architectural expression and composition.

  • To reinstate the family home with its own distinct contemporary architectural character, expression and clarity that both builds on and respects the origins of Dromdiah house.
